Retired Reverend's Ramblings  -  April 2015

As I write this we are seeing the beginnings of new life in the countryside around us. Reminding us once again of the new life God gives us through  Jesus. As the risen Jesus appeared to the disciples on the day of his resurrection he changed their fear into great joy. They, and all who had experienced the ministry of Jesus, experienced the touch of his hand, experienced the joy, hope and peace that his words and actions brought into their lives. They were changed as they received the assurance of forgiveness and the certain hope of salvation, the certain hope of new life in heaven. The resurrection confirmed the truth of that for all of us.

Jesus gave his life on the cross, taking upon himself the burden of our sins and through his triumphant resurrection he has won the victory over sin and death. Not just for the disciples who met with Jesus but for all who respond to him in repentance and faith. As a result we can be forgiven, cleansed of all sin and made new in God's sight. St. Paul wrote;

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV 2011 Edition)

With Jesus alongside that is true for us. We experience the joy of knowing that he is the risen, living Lord. Jesus longs to come and be with all who are willing to accept him as Lord and Saviour. Because Jesus lives we will live also, Alleluia. What joy it is to know the truth of that.

A friend sent me a definition of joy which had been given to him:

“Joy is the settled assurance that God is in control of all the details of my life, the quiet confidence that ultimately everything is going to be alright and the determined choice to praise God in everything.”

May we all know the joy, hope and peace which Jesus brings to us in life because he is the risen, living Lord. Let's praise him for who he is and what he has done for each one of us.
