No Knitted Angels this year - but we are having a Knitivity!
The first session of knitting will be on Tuesday 24th October at 10.00am at Jean Redfern's house, Fernley, Hulland Ward DE6 3EE (bear right at the Black Horse Pub and it is the 2nd to last house on the right.) The knitting patterns can be viewed by clicking here. Printed copies will be available. Please bring your kneedles and a selection of wool. I'll explain what we will be doing with the figures at this first meeting.

Bar from 5.00pm, Live Music from "The Last Pedestrians" from 7.30pm.

Hulland Flower Festival and Village Show
The annual Christ Church, Hulland Flower Festival will take place from Friday 25th to Monday 28th August 2017 and the church will be open between 10am to 6 pm. This year’s theme is ‘For All The Saints'. Throughout the weekend in Hulland Ward and District Millennium Village Hall next to the Church, there will be static displays by local groups, homemade refreshments and a local produce stall.
On Sunday 27th at 6.30pm we shall have our popular Festival Songs of Praise Service. This will be followed by light refreshments in the Village Hall. Other events in the Hall will be the Village Horticultural & Craft Show on Saturday 26th August (12.30 – 4.30pm) and Live Entertainment with a variety of acts on Monday 28th August (2 – 4.30 p.m).

Curate to join our Parishes
On 2nd July Linda Webb will be ordained at Derby Cathedral and will then join us here in our United Benefice. She will be working as a 'self supporting minister' and will work 3 days a week: Sunday, Monday plus one other day. Linda has written a short piece about herself - you can read it here.
There will be an 'open house' at the Rectory on Thursday 6th July from 3pm to 5pm for people to come and meet Linda. All are welcome.

Home from Hospital Service - new to our area
If you are needing transport home from hospital, or may need some assistance once you have returned home from hospital - a new service is being run by volunteers in Ashbourne. Click here for their press release to find out more.

Good Friday Reflections
At Hognaston church on Good Friday, there will be five 'Reflection Areas' which are there to help us pause and consider the events of the first Good Friday. You are welcome to come in throughout the day to use these areas.
There will be an "Hour at the Cross" service at 2.00pm.
A Big Thank You!
...to all those who contributed towards the recent Hulland Spring Fair. Nearly £900 was raised for the Church - but just as important was the fact that lots of people had a great time at a wonderful event!

Recognising 21st Century Genocide
‘Bishop Alastair in Conversation’- chaired by Graham Falgate of the Derby Holocaust Memorial Day Trust
Wednesday 25 January, 6pm, Derby Cathedral - followed by a drinks reception
The Rt Revd Dr Alastair Redfern, Bishop of Derby, talks of his work alongside the Foreign Office in raising awareness of the plight of the Yazidis in Iraq and the Middle East. This sits alongside his work as a leading campaigner in the Houses of Parliament in bringing an end to modern slavery and sexual violence in conflict.
As part of Holocaust Memorial Day week, Bishop Alastair will discuss 21st century genocide within the context of sexual violence in conflict particularly against the Yazidis; the challenges to governments; and the response of individuals and the church.
This event is open to all.

New Testament Illustrated Talk
Revd Dr Graham Rutter will be giving an illustrated talk looking at the background to the New Testament – Graham is Vicar of Swadlincote & Area Dean in the south of the Diocese, but in an earlier incarnation was an archaeologist in the Holy Land. This is a repeat of a talk that he gave at a Transforming Faith gathering. The meeting is open to anyone & is free (donations welcome) & the kettle will be on!
